ABOUT PATTY OSTBERG-SPEIKER
Patty Ostberg-Speiker, MA, LMFT
Certified Parent Coach
Patty is committed to helping clients build healthier relationships with their families, partners, children and friends. She most enjoys helping them create connected relationships with her warm and sensitive style. Clients often say they feel seen, heard, and validated in their struggles while also developing ways to manage their relationships with more confidence.
Patty is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and earned her Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2017 from St. Mary’s University of Minnesota. She also holds Bachelor Degrees from the University of Wisconsin River Falls in Journalism and Political Science. Therapy is her second career after working as a journalist and in the health insurance industry.
Her previous career in journalism inspires her work as a therapist through the act of listening. Just as journalists listen for the story, therapists work alongside clients as their own healing journeys unfold. This process is what she enjoys most about being a psychotherapist.
Patty is certified in evidence-based Adaptive Parenting Tools (ADAPT) based on Parent Management Training Oregon Model (PMTO) ideal for parents with school aged children. She also is EMDRIA trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and Gottman Couples Therapy (Level 1). All above modalities are evidence-based.
In addition to owning Evergreen Therapy and Coaching, she works for Arizona State University implementing ADAPT across the country. Patty trains and coaches practitioners to certification in the ADAPT model. Additionally, she has experience teaching Trauma-Informed Care seminars for the Institute for Translational Research in Children's Mental Health at the University of Minnesota.
Outside of work Patty enjoys spending time with her spouse and two school-aged children. As a family they love to go on adventures including traveling, hiking, biking and skiing. Raised an Army brat, Patty often has the itch for travel and has many international friendships that encourage her to keep exploring. On a good day she considers herself to be an undercover cool mom that used to be a radio DJ, practices playing guitar, and being a good enough parent. On other days she's just trying to keep the house together with enough clean laundry.
Other places you can find my profile:
Evergreen is named from the journalism term meaning not time-sensitive. A story that stands the test of time and always remains relevant. Therapy is a process for exploring who you have become and deciding which parts of you are working to create your best self going forward. We all have challenging beliefs and some keep us strong and others that set us back. In therapy, there are evidenced-based treatments to work through those negative beliefs to set you up for success.
Most importantly, Evergreen is a welcoming environment for all spiritual influences and beliefs. We are affirming of all gender identifications and cultural backgrounds. Evergreen is trauma-informed as defined by the National Institute of Mental Health.
Evergreen uses tele-health to provide evidence-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness (MBCT), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Adaptive Parenting Tools (ADAPT), and Gottman for couples. Systemic theories are based in Bowen and Attachment family therapy.
